Temporary Professed Franciscan Sister

“I think one of the ways that I’ve grown is that I’ve come to trust the Lord’s plan or ways more than my own.” – Sr. Delores Vogt, OSF

After professing vows for the first time, Temporary Professed Sisters receive a black veil, our Rule of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis, Constitutions and Directory, and sign our Community Register. This celebration takes place at our Motherhouse.

Our new Sisters strive to grow in a loving knowledge of God. They learn to better integrate prayer and daily living while emphasizing the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience. Walking in the light with unswerving step, they pursue Gospel perfection to which the Spirit of the Lord has called them.

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE A TEMPORARY PROFESSED SISTER?

Honestly it never ceases to blow my mind that I could be called to be a bride of Christ. It’s just so amazing! I remember thinking on profession day about the seriousness of what I was promising the Lord, but knew that the Lord was also promising Himself to me in a brand new way! The year has been filled with new things – new state, new school, new adventures – and I do love adventures! – Sister Mary Teresa

WHAT ELSE WILL YOU EXPERIENCE AND LIVE AS A TEMPORARY PROFESSED SISTER?

Expect to pursue the studies and experiences necessary for apostolic service. Each Sister is assigned to a local community and an apostolic work when properly prepared. In addition to a summer program, a two-day mid-year experience is planned at the Motherhouse each year.

Like all Community members, Temporary Professed Sisters may enjoy two weeks with family and friends. They are encouraged to be present for significant family celebrations.

WHEN CAN YOU EXPECT TO MAKE PERPETUAL PROFESSION?

By mutual decision with the Congregation, Sisters make perpetual profession after 3-5 years. A special one-month intensive program of prayer and renewed instruction on the vows anticipates the celebration of Perpetual Profession on the Feast of Our Lady of the Angels, the Portiuncula.

“This moment contains all moments.” – C.S. Lewis
