On this July 27, 2012 (after sharing ‘7 quick takes Friday’) Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Sister Mary Ann Spanjers and Sister Julie Ann Sheahan will be on the road for St. Thomas University, St. Paul, MN, for a Steubenville North Conference. Yeah!

We are excited to meet a crowd of Midwest young people. To prepare, we packed a lot of simple ‘cross-ed’, wooden Eucharist-like medallions that are attached to a simple cord to give away. St. Francis’ love for the Eucharist is clearly at the heart of this gift. Our Sister Elaine Turba’s Dad did the wood work for us. (We did a lot of stringing and beading!)

We also will be distributing another special ‘peace’ momento. Made out of embroidery floss and a simple wooden, ‘peace’ bar , the project was started at one of our Franciscan Community Quasi Chapter Recreations. Our Sisters really out did themselves in creativity. Watch for some colorful photos.

We packed our Year of Faith Vocation Discernment Retreat Flyers. We already have some young women interested in our September 21-23, 2012 weekend. Actually, we are meeting some of our future registered retreatants in MN. Is God calling you to be with us, too? Click here for details. This is not the only programming we are doing for this unique year designated by Pope Benedict XVI. Look for a special Year of Faith with a Franciscan Focus Young Adult event near you. (Yes, that includes the possibility of TX, MN, etc.! We are thinking big!)

Because the clock is ticking for the closing of this special 800th anniversary year of St. Clare’s call to follow Jesus on her feastday August 10, we also are bringing a bigger than life image of one of our favorite feminine followers of St. Francis. St. Clare will overlook our booth all weekend long.

We always look forward to sharing our Franciscanized World song of the month with everyone we meet. If you haven’t listened to water-inspired jazz Hymn of the Tides by Jamie Ousley yet, click here. If you already have visited us on our website, you will want to come back on August 1 for more music focused on water. We invite you to quench your thirst with another soul inspired melody.

It seems appropriate to quickly close with a special ‘travel’ blessing of St. Clare: Always be lovers of God and your souls of your Sisters (and Brothers:)!), and always be eager to observe what you have promised the Lord. May the Lord be with you always and, wherever you are, may you be with Him always. Amen.
