Franciscan New Year Song: Children of the Sun by Sean Michael Showalter

Paul Keggington

January 01, 2014

As 2014 offers the opportunity for a vibrant spirit of joy, peace and delight in simple things, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity unite with Sean Michael Showalter to offer Children of the Sun as a special New Year ‘free music download’. You’ll want to listen and pray the lyrics for our whole world. (St. Francis would like this song and sing along. Better yet, he’d sing it in fraternity.)

Franciscan Sisters follow in the footsteps of JesusIn his recent Gospel of Joy, Pope Francis also invites “all Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, to a renewed  personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least an openness to letting him  encounter them; I ask all of you to do this unfailingly each day. No one should  think that this invitation is not meant for him or her, since ‘no one is  excluded from the joy brought by the Lord’. The Lord does not disappoint those who take this risk; whenever we take a step  towards Jesus, we come to realize that he is already there, waiting for us with  open arms.”

What a perfect resolution that promises radical growth in goodness and love and the blessing of unity!

From Sean Michael Showalter

Sean Michael ShowalterI wrote Children of the Sun to promote brotherly love and to look beyond the walls our egos have built up. We are all souls or spirits living in fleshly bodies, and what truly separates us is our subjective perception of reality.  Even I, a reborn Christian, has to admit that my beliefs are a result of my collective life experience and my perception of reality. My faith is my “best guess” as to why I am here , who God is, how the Universe came to be and any other questions I may have on the subject of reality.  In the end, what a person chooses to believe is between that person and God. I am called by Jesus to not judge others and to practice tolerance and kindness in this world. Through the Holy Spirit I am capable of loving everyone today; even my enemies. But your heart, mind and soul is your own and you are free to choose what you believe. I hope my song will help us look beyond the differences in religions and ideologies that separate us; that it can help us practice love and tolerance for one another in-spite of our disagreements; that we are all God’s children , brothers and sisters, or Children of the Sun.

Thank you so much for listening!
