How Often Does a Franciscan Convent Purchase New Dishes

Our Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity Motherhouse-Holy Family Convent-has new dishes in the new year. Sister Jerianne Stelmach tells more…

Franciscan Sisters New DishesBelieve it or not, it has been about 42 years since the Honeycomb design chinaware was purchased and those dishes have served us well.

In the fall of 2013 Sister Veronica Schad noticed that our supply of dinner plates and sauce dishes was very low. (Yes, even in a convent dishes break!) She contacted the General Administration and was given the ‘ok’ to go shopping.

So one nice autumn day Sisters Kay Warning, Veronica and Sister Jerianne Stelmach went to the Boelter Warehouse in Milwaukee where they have beautiful displays of chinaware.

Franciscan Sister Jerianne and Franciscan Sister VeronicaWe chose a few designs and asked to have the samples mailed to the Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, WI. When the samples arrived, time was given to decide which design was the best fit for our needs. The decision was made to go with the New World Basic Orbis pattern and Sister Veronica was given the ‘go’ sign to order.

In late December they arrived, so we were eager to start off the New Year with new dishes and enjoyed hearing the comments from the Sisters when they came to breakfast on January 1.

History has been made once again at HFC on January 1, 2014.
