Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity Sister Elena Gonzales shares about a recent visit of an Arizona State Catholic Sorority to St. Peter Mission, Bapchule, AZ.

Franciscan Sisters Cookout with ASU Catholic SororityA recent marvelous March Sunday Franciscan Sisters at Bapchule, AZ invited the sisters of the Mu Epsilon Theta of ASU. There were 8 lovely young ladies who we met and greeted in St. Peter Mission Church. One of the young ladies was my niece, Keani Chang a sophomore at ASU.

Then we gave the sorority sisters a tour of the mission. They were amazed of how old St. Peter’s Church is and how wonderfully preserved the paintings inside the building. The tour ended in our convent and the scavenger hunt began. Our guests were in teams which included a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity and we all had to hunt for things that spelled the word ‘Sisters’. All had an enjoyable time looking for items all over the mission. Each group was creative in what they found. Then after the activity, we enjoyed a delightful cookout that all the Sisters put together: hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, fruit, veggies, and cake. As we ate they asked a lot of great questions about religious life. Each of the Franciscan Sisters shared our vocation story and we presented a video on FSCC ways of life.

Once we ate to our hearts desire and answered all questions, we went to church to pray together. After prayer we presented the young ladies with a gift and a “Journey Into God Icon Reflection Booklet’ composed of icons done by our Franciscan Sisters and two international Sister students attending Silver Lake College of the Holy Family. We were given hugs and many thanks for sharing our way of life. As we all went our way, we were filled with joy and peace.
