September 01, 2014

September signals change. All the weather’s moods call us to assess signs of progress in ourselves, others and in creation. As you follow your dreams this month, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity collaborate with Ken Yates to offer  In the Middle of Heaven and Here as a free music download.

St. Francis of Assisi with birds of the airSt. Francis talked about heaven this way. “What a great laudable exchange: to leave the things of time for those of eternity, to choose the things of heaven for the goods of earth, to receive the hundred-fold in place of one, and to possess a blessed and eternal life.”

About Ken Yates

Ken YatesBorn and Raised in London, Ontario, Ken Yates moved to Boston to study songwriting at Berklee College of Music. It was there that he developed his skills as a songwriter, releasing his first CD, “The Backseat EP”, and received the opportunity to play a song for one of his biggest influences, John Mayer.  Mayer even posted a full page blog about Yates’ ability as a writer stating, “Ken Yates wrote a song called ‘I Don’t Wanna Fall In Love’… this song moved me when I first heard it and still does today”. Yates’ EP received high critical acclaim, leading to a slew of online covers from fans.  He has toured with many notable names including veteran singer/songwriter and mentor, Livingston Taylor, Sister Hazel, Peter Katz, and Liz Longley and has songs in heavy rotation on Sirius XM’s The Coffee House where he was nominated for The Coffee House Songwriter Discovery of the Year.

His debut full length album twenty-three, recorded in Holland and produced by Joren van der Voort is available now with Mishara Music.

Lyrics:

I’m on the outside looking out
And I’m still wondering how I’m on the wrong side of my dreams
I guess everybody is right
The grass is greener on one side
But I couldn’t find where it divides

It’s a real thin line in the middle of heaven and here
Cause I see paradise across a river of tears
But I know there’s hope for my soul
That took a wrong turn on the yellow brick road
It’s a real thin line in the middle of heaven and here

My dreams they look me in the eye
And they never tell me why I can look but I can’t touch
I know there’s others just like me
That gave it all up for their dreams
Now they’re standing out of reach

Chorus

But I’ll find my time to cross that line
And I won’t look back
