Sister JulieAnn Sheahan

October 04, 2014

With the coming Year of Awareness of Consecrated Religious, Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity Sister Martin Flavin wrote a special Transitus of St. Francis service from the perspective of St. Clare. It was prayed for the first time October 3, 2014 in Holy Family Convent’s St. Mary Chapel, Motherhouse of the Franciscan Sisters in Manitowoc, WI.

Franciscan Sisters Transitus Service Present for this ritual of remembrance were our Sisters from area convents, students and staff from Silver Lake College of the Holy Family, other members of the Franciscan orders and folks from area Catholic parishes.

Community Director Sister Natalie Binversie was the voice of Clare. Novice Sister Maria Therese and Sister Marlene Schwaller were her Poor Clare Sisters.

Franciscan Friars of the Assumption Province Father Placid Stroik, Father Finian Zaucha and Father Hilary Brzezinski had significant roles representing the early friars.   Sister musicians Sister Winifred Crevier, Sister Marcus Steede, Sister Marsaia Kaster, Sister Angela Paul and Sister Elizabeth Benvie (and Chiara Convent Sister Choir) provided instrumental and sung compositions adding to the spirit of the evening. Of course, special thanks goes to Sister Adrianna Schouten who provided the many almond cookies for the reception.

Another very moving moment of the evening was when Silver Lake College of the Holy Family students carried lit candles and sang Dona Nobis Pacem standing in for the first followers of St. Francis.

Pictures tell the rest of the story.
