Realizing one doesn’t discern his/her direction alone, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity’s May song is Bob Dylan’s I’ll Keep It With Mine. Listen to this YouTube version sung by Fairport Convention.

Our Franciscan Sisters serving at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Greenwood, MS offer  comments and invite you to consider your own.

Franciscan Discernment RetreatThis is a voice from the past with a message worth contemplating. Discernment can be a wearying experience, especially if we try to make that journey in a vacuum. The One who calls us is surely not going to just travel on down the line leaving us in uncertainty. The lyrics console the searcher—“how long can you search for what’s not lost?” Our purpose, our way is never lost in God’s sight. If following is a burden, if finding the right route is beyond us, He can handle it—“Come on, give it to me, I’ll keep it with mine.” He’s keeping us all despite all the “helpful advice” that sometimes only marks a detour on the journey. Faith tells us He’ll be back tomorrow, same time again. Thanks be to God! -Sister Kathleen Murphy, OSF

Franciscan Sisters discerning young woman photo Priscilla Thomas“Discover what you set out to find” for me is the focus of this song. We all search, at least at one point in life, until we know what it is we are searching for. What is the need of our heart? Ultimately we all seek to love and to be loved. This is an amazing song if you see it as God speaking. He waits for us to find Him so that that need can be filled! He was never lost! -Sister Annette Kurey, OSF

Lyrics

You will search,
At any cost
But how long,
Can you search for what’s not lost?
Everybody will help you
Some people are very kind
But if I can save you any time
Come on, give it to me
I’ll keep it with mine

I can’t help it
If you might think I’m odd
If I say I’m not loving you for what you are
But for what you’re not
Everybody will help you
Discover what you set out to find
But if I can save you any time
Come on, give it to me
I’ll keep it with mine

The train leaves
At half past ten
But it’ll be back tomorrow
Same time again
The conductor he’s weary
He’s still stuck on the line
But if I can save you any time
Come on, give it to me
I’ll keep it with mine
