Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity share a friendly greeting from Postulant Mary Bettag. Learn more about her and her own call to be Franciscan.

Franciscan Postulant Mary Bettag profileHi Everyone! My name is Mary Bettag, and I am so excited to be writing all of you this letter! It has been a crazy couple of months but I’m finally here. I’m out in Yuma, Arixonia beginning my postulancy with the Sisters at Immaculate Conception Convent. I’m also doing my student teaching in theology and math at Yuma Catholic High School—Go Rocks! I never thought religious life would be such an adventure; and believe me, I love adventures!

I was a World Youth Day baby, born in Denver in 1993. But my family is originally from the Midwest (Chicago area, to be more specific, so beware because I like the Bears); so we moved back to the area when I was still young to be closer to family. I have been blessed with a wonderful family; my parents, Mark and Teresa, are wonderful faith-filled people—I hope you will all get a chance to meet them sometime! Together they raised/are raising eight children, of which I’m the second oldest.

Here’s a quick rundown of the kids: My older brother, Charlie (23) is in medical school at Creighton University; my younger sister, Regina (18), is a sophomore at St. Mary’s University in Minnesota, my brothers Luke (16) and Joseph (15) are in high school at Roncalli, and John (13), Brendan (11), and Cecilia (7) are all in grade school at Seton Catholic. So my Mom stays busy!

My parents were/are great because they made faith a priority, and sacrificed to send us to Catholic schools all my life. But I had never met a Sister until I came to Roncalli for high school. Interestingly though, the seed of my vocation had been planted in my heart when I was in third grade. Although I didn’t pay much attention to it until later in college.
