Franciscan Sister Pilgrim on the Camino

November 04, 2015

During this Year of Consecrated Life, Franciscan Sister Anne Turba is walking the Camino from Ponferrada to Santiago. She carries with her the many intentions of our Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Community.  Join us in prayers for a safe journey for her. She travels with family: brother Dave and sister in law Annika. Experience one day on the road through Sister Anne’s eyes.

Just a note before I head to bed to let you know I am well. We ended up walking 19 miles today so the feet are tired! We had not planned to walk that far, but the pilgrim shelter we were planning on staying in was closed so we walked 5 more miles to find an open one. It has been a wonderful adventure so far and I am in great company. Franciscan Sister Anne on the CaminoThe countryside is breathtaking-especially after hiking to the top of a 4000 meter mountain! You and all our Sisters are so present to me these days. I find, too, that St. Francis is walking with me.

In Villafranca and in the town today at the top of the mountain there were posters or signs saying that St. Francis stayed in these places on his way to Santiago. They say he walked it in the year 1214 and last year this event was celebrated all along the Camino. The church today at the top of the mountain had a large San Domiano cross in it and had the prayer before the crucifix available in 6 languages for people to pray it. I lit a candle for all of you at the foot of the statue of St. Francis that was there and prayed for all your  intentions and needs. Franciscan Sister Anne day 1+I need to go. Lights out at 10 pm! Just like in the dorm living in formation! Sending my love and prayers. Thank you for all your prayers for me as well.Franciscan Sister Anne Camino Pilgrimage
