Franciscan Sister Mariella S. Erdmann, OSF was named Professor Emeritus, a status awarded to a retired faculty member who has made substantial contributions to Silver Lake College of the Holy Family, Manitowoc, WI, and to his or her profession. The honor allows her to retain all the rights of a faculty member.Franciscan Sister Mariella Erdmann Professor Emeritus

Sister Mariella retired from Silver Lake College in 2015, after a 38-year affiliation with the College as Art Instructor and Director of the Art Program. The Du Charme Erdmann art hall gallery was recently named in her and Sister Andree Du Charme’s honor.

Her artistic hand is reflected above the entrance to the Pat and Bob Endries Hall in the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance. Her colorful painting illustrates St. Francis of Assisi’ “Canticle of the Sun” showing love for all of God’s creation.Franciscan Sister Mariella Erdmann Canticle of the Creatures oil print

Sister Mariella also painted a four-foot San Damiano Cross that hangs near the entrance of the Endries Family Heritage Room in the main building. She designed the impressive layout of the collaged photos for the Heritage Room. A drawing of St. Clare is etched on the facade of Chiara Convent. Her creative touch is marked here and in other places making the world more Franciscan.
