Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity have our own book clubs. This summer Sister Caritas Strodthoff and Sister Marcolette Madden are facilitating 4 one hour discussions, independent of each other, centering on questions, concerns and interests generated by Sister Donna Marie Kessler’s book, A Star of Hope Shone in the Convent Sky.
Participants will trace the history of our Community’s faith, charism and place our Sisters within the political and social culture of the eras before 1945.
What are some other points of discussion?
On page 65 there are pictures to introduce Chapter 6. The one refers to the Community Book that contains the names and dates of birth, reception and profession. Obviously this was not begun when the Community began, but later. When were the original entries begun, by whom (beautiful hand writing) and who wrote the corrections, etc.? Is this book still in use? How reliable is it?
Why might Father Joseph Fessler have gone to Latrobe, PA for seminary? Was it a place of training for German speaking priests?
In the last Chapter 14 which discusses the Sisters involvement of helping during World War II, it would be interesting to see artifacts, etc.
