Franciscan Sisters Offer a Prayer After the Elections

Sister JulieAnn Sheahan

November 11, 2016

On this Veterans Day, Franciscan Sister Leonette Kochan, who serves in the Office of Human Life and Dignity for the Diocese of Tucson,  offers a prayer after the U.S. elections that our Sisters are praying at San Xavier Convent.

Franciscan Sisters  of Christian Charity at San Xavier Mission, Tucson, AZ, prayed a novena prayer before the national elections.  As we all continue to recognize the need for prayer for our country, we are now praying this PRAYER FOLLOWING an ELECTION as an after the election novena. Perhaps others will join us.franciscan-sisters-convent-in-manitowoc-with-u-s-flag-flying

 Prayer after an election

God of all nations,
Father of the human family,
we give you thanks for the freedom we exercise
and the many blessings of democracy we enjoy
in these United States of America.
We ask for your protection and guidance
for all who devote themselves to the common good,
working for justice and peace at home and around the world.

We lift up all our duly elected leaders and public servants,
those who will serve us as president, as legislators and judges,
those in the military and law enforcement.
Heal us from our differences and unite us, O Lord,
with a common purpose, dedication, Amen.

The “Prayer After an Election” by Cardinal Adam Maida,
Archbishop of Detroit, is used with permissionveterans-of-war
