Franciscan Sisters Nativity Collection

Sister JulieAnn Sheahan

December 28, 2016

St. Francis of Assisi delighted in Nativity depictions. In this spirit Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity’s Motherhouse, Manitowoc, WI, also houses many remembrances of Jesus’ birth. While some are visible year round, others appear just during the Christmas Season.  All are reflections of God’s love.franciscan-sister-myra-jeans-embroidery-nativity

Some nativity sets were gifts received by the Sisters from people from precious places e.g. Peru, Tohono O’odham Reservation, Hawaii. Others were made by our Sisters e.g. Sister Myra Jean Sweigart’s embroidered collection complete with camel, donkey and sheep.  Sister Paula Rae Rose made a delightful dark and light blue ceramic depiction which sits on a blue plate with the barn on the edge. Children enjoyed this scene in various locations in the past. Then there are the very creative figures of pinecone, material and blue and yellow wire. franciscan-sister-paula-raes-ceramic-nativity

Enjoy a small gallery of crèches.
