St. Clare Song: Bread of Heaven by Sister Renee Mirkes

In this month celebrating St. Clare, a woman often depicted holding a monstrance, Franciscan Sister Renee Mirkes offers for reflection an original composition entitled Bread from Heaven. Bread from Heaven [based on the prayer Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity say every morning before Morning Prayer] that Sister Renee composed for a Eucharistic conference about 10 years ago. She sings the lyrics of the song during this month devoted to a woman who was a stable beacon of poverty and contemplation at the heart of the Franciscan ideal. Christ is the bread from heaven
Savor the gift of salvation
Oh taste the peace of your kingdom
Oh feast on your undivided love
Oh obtaining all goodness
Savor the gift of salvation
Taste the peace of your kingdom
Feast on your undivided love

Eucharistic Prayer from which the song is based:

How holy this feast in which Christ is our food; his passion is recalled; grace fills our hearts; and we receive a pledge of the glory to come. You gave them bread from heaven to be their food; And this bread contained all goodness. Lord Jesus Christ, you gave us the Eucharist as the memorial of your suffering and death. May our worship of this sacrament of your body and blood help us to experience the salvation you won for us and the peace of the kingdom where you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
