North Carolina Young Woman Becomes Franciscan Novice

Sister JulieAnn Sheahan

June 15, 2019

With great joy Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity celebrated the Rite of Initiation into the Religious Life on June 15, 2019 welcoming Novice Sister Maria Guadalupe (Yazmin) into our Community’s Novitiate. Sister Maria Guadalupe’s home parish is St. Michael Parish, Cary, North Carolina. Today she begins a two year experience during which she is under the guidance of Directress of Novices, Sister Mariadele Jacobs. Community Director Sister Natalie Binversie welcomed the new Novice with these words.

Sister Maria Guadalupe, welcome into the Community of The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity. You asked for the name, Sister Maria Guadalupe, because of your devotion to Our Blessed Mother under the title, Our Lady of Guadalupe. Our Lady appeared to Juan Diego and told him to not be afraid. You desire this reminder as you continue your journey in Religious life. Our Lady of Guadalupe will be a protector and guide for you, leading you to Jesus. Your Feast Day will be celebrated on December 12th, the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The Title you chose is “Daughter of Divine Trust.” In your explanation you wrote, “Just as Jesus reached out for the hand of Peter when he was sinking, I feel that He is reaching for my hand and saving me from my sinfulness. Rays of blood and water come out from the wound of Jesus’ hand as a symbol of His Divine Mercy. Jesus wants to replace my fears with trust. The words, ‘Jesus I Trust in You,’ symbolize the faith and trust that is increasingly developing in my heart. Jesus takes my hand in this new step of His invitation to follow Him.” “Daughter of Divine Trust” will be celebrated on Mercy Sunday.

In your letter dated March 19, 2019 you wrote:
Being with the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity is the best thing that ever happened to me. I have certainty that God wants me here. I find that Religious Life is helping me to have a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. He has been so kind and merciful to me for bringing me here. I am really thankful for everything I have received. I know that with the help of Jesus and Mary, I can be of great service to God and the Community. It is evident that Jesus called me to this Community. I trust in Jesus and I say, “Thy Will be done!”

Sister Maria Guadalupe, the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity are filled with joy this day as we welcome you, our Sister, into the Community. We are committed to helping you learn our way of life, to follow Christ crucified and to live in chastity, poverty and obedience. As followers of St. Francis of Assisi, we make this journey with you, living out the Gospel way of life in the footsteps of Jesus. You are assured of the prayers and support of all of your Sisters.

Is God calling you to be a Franciscan Sister? We invite you to consider our Community.
