Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Novice Sister Concepción responds to a question about the importance of family support in discerning a call to religious life.

Sister Concepción, can you tell us about the support you felt following your call to be a Franciscan Sister?

Praise God for the abundant blessings He has bestowed, particularly in way of support. Through family, friends, and an entire church community, He has provided a foundation that has sustained without giving way. By way of family, when the topic of a religious vocation came up, there were a lot of questions and initially it was not fully met with support, but that quickly changed. I have been blessed with a family that, I believe, loves me unconditionally and that has made all the difference in the world. My family has taught me faith, love, and endurance.

They are constant examples of what strength looks like and have been the encouragement that I have needed to continue on this journey, because they have always directed my gaze to God. Through this entire process, not only my faith, but the faith of my entire family has grown. By way of friends and church community, I have been provided an entire regiment of people who pray for me. I choose to believe that their prayers are what keep me standing and I couldn’t do it without them.

As I reflect on the support that I’ve received it is brazenly obvious that it is through the grace and love of God that I have been provided any of this. Truly I am thankful for all the of the love and support that I have, and continue to receive and I am thankful that I can’t imagine my life without it.
