Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Novice Sister Maria Guadalupe continues to share on her family’s support of her call to be a Franciscan Sister. If you missed her previous comments, click here.

By the time I finally got accepted in June, my family had already assimilated the idea of religious life for me. Right before I entered, my grandmother Carmen died. So we went to Mexico to pray for her. I got the chance to see my other relatives on my mom side and my dad side. My grandma Lola was so happy for me. My family from my mom’s side and my dad side were really supportive.

Actually, they’ve been more supportive than ever in my life. So even though I don’t see them much, our relationship has grown in prayer. My Mom, my Dad, my Brother and my Sister all brought me to the convent when I moved here. They toured the convent and they were happy for me. When it was time for them to leave, it was hard, but I could not let them see me cry because there is cause for rejoicing here. Each time they come and visit me, or I go on a home visit, I cherish every moment I have with them. I know that it is for the best that I am here. And I do them more good by being here than by being with them. My call to follow Jesus and leave my family and friends promises the hundred fold. And I trust that Jesus will take care of them and He will have mercy on them for their love and support toward me.
