Novice Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity Sister Mary Jane Schwartz shares her experience of currently attending Franciscan University of Steubenville online.
This semester I’m taking two online classes: Christian Moral Principles and Philosophy of the Human Person. This is the first time I’ve taken a philosophy class. Online felt at first very challenging, but so far I’m really enjoying taking classes through Franciscan University of Steubenville. Each class has two different instructors, the teaching instructor and the creating instructor who does the online lecture. Both of the classes are very alike in the way that each session is learning about human behavior and how to change one’s behavior to better imitate Jesus Christ.
I’ve had online classes before, but this is the first time where I’m solely online and taking classes through a college in a different state. I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue my education virtually, and Franciscan University of Steubenville has been very helpful, helping me choose my courses and navigate the college site. I do however, miss the face to face instruction that is available in a classroom. It is different just typing a response, but with Covid- 19 there are many colleges wisely presenting instruction in this way. Overall, I’m enjoying my classes and I’m excited to continue learning Moral Theology and Philosophy.

Sr. Mary Jane, I am so happy to hear that you are taking Moral Theology & Philosophy at Franciscan U. in Steubenville, OH. I had the great opportunity to take classes there when I was teaching first grade at St. Agnes School, Mingo, Junction, OH & since I was there 4 or so years I continued courses to get a Masters in Ed. Admin. & Supervision of Teachers. (U. of Dayton faculty taught there & you could get the masters.) Does Franciscan U. have different master programs now, Sr. Mary Jane?
God’s blessings to you on doing your studies on-line. The Sisters here at St. Benedict’s, Cambridge, OH send greetings & as you know we continue to pray for YOU! A Blessed St. Francis Day to you & those to whom you reside!
