The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity  Novitiate Community, as always has focused on learning about Community life, charism and contemplation, among other things. This year, they have added more “Cs” to their list of topics—Cuisine and Cooking! Novice Directress Sister Kathleen Murphy comments on this Motherhouse experience that occurred before Sister Maria Guadalupe Martinez Lopez’s First Profession of vows.

Sister Annette Kurey shared her expertise and many years of experience with Sisters Maria Guadalupe and Mary Jane over 3 weeks of intensive coaching. The sessions helped the Novices understand that we eat first with our eyes, that a lovely table enhances the dining experience and that time management in meal preparation can be critical. Sister Maria Guadalupe plans to remember how helpful it is to plan and work ahead on some elements of a menu.

Sister Mary Jane Schwartz wants to keep in mind the importance of planning a variety of colors, shapes, textures and flavors on your plate. She quotes Sister Annette’s words of wisdom, “Even a normal, ordinary meal can be an adventure!”
