All Saints Series: St. Peter Parish Slinger Reliquary

Sister JulieAnn Sheahan

October 28, 2024

As we near the Feast of All Saints, we celebrate in honor of all the saints of the Church, whether they are known or unknown. As Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, we recall precious memories of loves ones, our families, our Sisters in Community. We also call upon the intercession of saints officially known for their love of God and others throughout the ages. We glorify God by praying with these holy souls and ask their intercession on our own journey to God.

Fr. Richard Stoffel, Pastor at St. Peter Parish, Slinger, Wisconsin and St. Lawrence, Hartford, Wisconsin generously shared about the reliquaries that are dear to his parish families.

Please find a most comprehensive list of the saints remembered in the parish reliquaries here: Lives of the Saints St. Peter Slinger Relics and Lives of the Saints II St. Peter Slinger Relics.

“Since the church was remodeled/renovated in 2018, one of the new features is the addition of a new stone altar in which are relics of ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA.”

Why St. Anthony relics?

“Well, our parish is CLUSTERED with St. Lawrence/Hartford (with a chapel at St. Matthias/Nabob) and Resurrection/Allenton, a parish formed the merger of three parishes (Ss. Peter & Paul/Nenno, Sacred Heart/Allenton, and St. Anthony/Allenton) – the altar stone containing the relics of St. Anthony was donated by the parishioners of that merged parish so that the lively faith of one of our earliest parish communities would not be forgotten and his intercession might inspire presiders.  The altar stone from the church in Nenno is still with us as well, waiting to be placed in the new altar being made for the 2026 redecoration/renovation at Resurrection/Allenton and it contains relics of both Sts. Peter and Paul.”

Do you have any new relics in your parish?

“We are in process of receiving relics of a number of Capuchin saints but these have not yet arrived from the donor(s). The last relic received was St. Anthony in the donated altar stone. We have a booklet detailing the lives of the saints remembered in our reliquary, available for visitors (List #1 attached); list #2 details the relics we are yet to receive and place in an appropriate additional reliquary display case. Hope you find this helpful as well as interesting!”
