Franciscan Sister of Chrisitan Charity Sister Mary Ann Spanjers shares on a recent Discernment Retreat for young women in the Diocese of Tucson.

The Tucson Diocese outreach to young women discerning if God is calling them to Religious Life had a beautiful group of over 20 young adult women come together with Sisters from the Diocese to spend a day in prayer, sharing, reflection, questions, Adoration and celebration of the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.

The comments of the young women express what the day meant to them.

  • “I appreciated the sisters’ testimonies, their stories and their time. I am thankful to God for letting me see him through them and their lives.”
  • “I appreciated learning about the different congregations. I appreciated hearing the different stories of each sister. I really relate to Sister Pamela Catherine’s story. I loved it all”
  • “I greatly appreciated getting to meet and know the many sisters and other young women here today. Getting to hear about their experiences and discernment journeys was a blessing! I learned a lot and gained a lot of insight about Religious Life.”
  • “I have never met a sister before today. It was so cool to talk and pray with you all. You have a contagious joy and love for the Lord.”

Tucson diocese vocation director, Fr. Alan Valencia, was instrumental in planning this Discernment Day retreat with Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity, Sister Mary Ann Spanjers. His support and presence throughout the day helped make this such an important time for the young women and Sisters of the Tucson diocese.
