Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Elect New Leaders

Sister JulieAnn Sheahan

June 23, 2025

On June 23, 2025, the General Chapter of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity elected Sister Marlita Henseler, Community Director and her Council: First Councilor, Sister Pamela Biehl, Second Councilor, Sister Anne Turba, Third Councilor, Sister Jacqueline Spaniola and Fourth Councilor, Sister Carol Ann Gambsky. These Sisters are now called to strengthen the bond of unity which exists among us, promoting the common good, and thus helping us all to build Christ’s Church in the world today.

The election process was proceeded with the Eucharist. Bishop David Ricken, Bishop of the Diocese of Green Bay, was the presider. After the Mass, the capitulars assembled in the chapter hall. Bishop Ricken led this prayer as part of the ritual before ballots were distributed:

O God, our Father, we ask you to let your Holy Spirit fall on the world again, in particular on this community, and especially on this assembly, that we may know in our lives that Jesus is Lord, and that we personally have a hand in preparing the world for his return in glory.

Father of light from whom every good gift comes, send your Holy Spirit into our lives with the power of an irresistible wind, and open the vision of our feeble minds with the warm flame of your burning wisdom.

Heavenly Father, send forth the flame of your hovering love, to exhaust the longing of our hunger for you. As the Child who was Prince of Peace grew in strength and wisdom under the care of Joseph and Mary, may we, who invoke their names as patrons and models, reflect their love in our homes and beyond.

After a decision was reached regarding the office of Community Director, all community members were summoned to gather in St. Mary’s Chapel. Once there, Bishop Ricken thanked the Sisters for their prayers to the Holy Spirit. He then announced the election results naming Sister Marlita as Community Director. A song of praise and thanksgiving was sung.

After dinner, Sister Natalie Binversie led the voting process for the members of the Council. When all was completed, all the Sisters were again called to chapel for this second announcement. Next, Sister Marlita and the four Councilors were congratulated and offered prayers of support.

There will be more coverage on this significant moment in our history on July 13, 2025 when we share with you the Installation of our Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity as leaders.

We Sisters are so grateful for all the prayerful support we have received this past week of meetings and elections. It will take several weeks to discern the ministries of the past Council and the responsibilities of the new Council. Right now we are celebrating the many gifts of our past, our present, and our future.
