Franciscan Sisters feature St. Anne Catholic Community Choir Houston, TXAbout Lead Me On

“Lead Me On” by Brian Schmidt is a sung prayer filled with hope for guidance along life’s pilgrimage toward light and peace, filled with trust even in times that may present days of darkness and pain. This anthem is especially appropriate for the Christian journey through Lent, a time, when through prayer, fasting and good works, the Church asks us to collectively turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel.

The choir adopted this song as a theme for our pilgrimage to Rome last year and sang at, not only at St. Peter’s Basilica, but at all the churches we visited as we journeyed through Italy. While not speaking directly of this song, Pope Francis captured its sentiment fully in a recent article in America magazine speaking at the tomb of Pope John XXIII: “The life of Blessed John XXIII is a lesson in how obedience and trust in God lead to an interior peace that is naturally recognized by and shared with others.”

Lord lead me on oh lead me on and guide my path along the way

O lead me on to brighter days where peace is born of hope that lies in me.

Guide me safely through the night that I may see the sun tomorrow and where a new day has begun

O lead me on in time of pain

O Lead me on

And may my heart be always warm because of you.
