Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity invite discerning young women, families and interested souls to Holy Family Convent, 2409 South Alverno Road, Manitowoc, Wisconsin on Sunday, November 8, 2026 at 2:30 p.m.. We are celebrating the 157th birthday of the founding of our religious community.
In this 800th Jubilee Year of St. Francis, Archivist Sister Caritas Strodthoff leads on a presentation focusing on the beginnings of our community and the choice to become followers of St. Francis. You can expect a light-hearted script on some, if not all that makes up our lives that is Franciscan. Listeners will hear about our American roots, but also the influence of the Congregation of the Poor School Sisters of St. Francis from Gieboldehausen in the Diocese of Hildesheim in Germany.
Sister Mariella Erdmann’s San Damiano Crucifix depicts well the Franciscan call to St. Francis. Unique to this crucifix are familiar figures written on the bottom of the icon. They image Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity significant to the story of the Community. For those who come on November 8, this treasure is found in St. Rita’s Chapel, down the hall, past the elevator, when leaving the area of Sunday’s presentation.
