img_5437.jpgOn March 27-28, 2009, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Healthcare Ministry Inc., gathered trustees of its four system organizations for the forum: The Changing Landscape of Healthcare in America: Our Mission Moving Forward. Scott McConnaha, Director of Corporate Relations, organized the education sessions.

Friday’s program included:

Later in the day, Bishop David Ricken, Diocese of Green Bay, presided at Friday evening’s Eucharistic liturgy. After dinner, Mark Moyer, Chair of the Genesis HealthCare System, received the Sister Ritarose Stahl Recognition Award bestowed on a trustee for commitment to the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity’s philosophy and values and long-standing service and loyal support for the stability and growth of the healthcare ministry.

img_5431.jpgOn Saturday morning, John Carr, executive director of the Department of Justice, Peace and Human Development at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, spoke in a witty, yet heartfully-honest way about the current environment in U.S. healthcare reform, discussed proposals under consideration and the important Catholic concerns that arise with each of them. He encouraged all present to integrate mission and service, being clear and visible in living Gospel values every day.

img_5432.jpgWith at least 55 million uninsured-job/coverage losses growing, Jeff Tieman, the Catholic Health Association‘s senior director of Health Reform Initiatives, gave reasons why there is need for concern for healthcare in the United States, how things currently stand in Washington, and gave suggestions to shape healthcare reform.
