After loading a string bass, keyboard, a few guitars, a Tanzanian drum, stand, flute and binders of sheet music into vans, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity took a road trip on October 16, 2010 to St. Mary of the Seven Dolores Faith Community, Stockbridge, WI to pray and witness religious life.
Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity led the music at an Oct. 16, 2010 Eucharistic Liturgy that included two infant baptisms.
Music Outreach (as we practically refer to it) happens once a month most months of the year on a Saturday evening which means showing up for a Sunday liturgy ready to play and sing. Our travels have taken us to smaller parishes in the Green Bay, Milwaukee and Marquette Catholic Dioceses. It is a Franciscan journey we enjoy and includes our Postulants and Novices. The first person to meet us after our 40 mile trek was pastor, Father Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep. After initial greetings and a bit of practice time, imagine our delight to be present for two infant baptisms. Later, Jim Fett, CEO at our Franciscan Community sponsored St. Paul Elder Services, Inc. in Kaukauna, WI. and his wife Barbara, invited all of us and our Sisters serving at St. Paul’s to their home for dinner after Mass. What a wonderful way to continue the Eucharist around another table with friends.
The title of Mary Mother of Sorrows, or Seven Dolores, originated in 1814. Pope Pius VII extended the celebration to the whole of the Latin Church. It was assigned to the third Sunday in September. Later in 1913, Pope Pius X moved the feast to September 15, the day after the Feast of the Cross.
Since we Franciscans tend to dwell on the seven joys of Mary, it was great to review another scriptural perspective via the stain glass windows in church.
