Here’s a Franciscan Catholic College’s Blessing of the Land

April 17, 2012

Armed with the Catholic big book of blessings on Monday, April 16, 2012, Father Dan Felton, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi, Manitowoc, WI, blessed the land which will be the site of  a new 35,000 square foot Silver Lake College of the Holy Family Music Education and Performance Center. The future building will provide practice and performance space for the Silver Lake College music program and the Holy Family Conservatory of Music. This dream come true project continues the fine arts heritage dear to Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity and many musicians past, present and yet to come.

Members of our religious community, faculty, staff, students, board members,  and others responded enthusiastically in word and song as well as raised hands in blessing on this new venture. Appropriately, Sister Antonice Lauer, a music teacher at Holy Family Conservatory, Manitowoc, WI,  and Taylor Geiger, a college Freshman, proclaimed the Scripture readings.

Under ominous skies, Brother Wind and Sister Water added to the dramatic nature of this most holy Franciscan blessing of Mother Earth. Wind gusts added special effects to the reading of the Word of God.   In addition, a gentle sprinkling of heavenly rain drops was perfectly timed to shower all present during the closing moments of the prayer.

Anyone personally touched by Holy Family Conservatory,  grateful for insights learned at Silver Lake College of the Holy Family or just desiring to make a gift that ensures our world includes the joy of music, you can still be part of this project. Contact us.

A formal ground-breaking ceremony will be held in June. This April blessing was planned especially for students who are graduating and those who will not be on campus this summer.
