Franciscan Temporary Professed Sisters Summoned and Sent Forth

July 16, 2012

On this Franciscan feast of humble teacher and philosopher Bonaventure, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity witnessed the Sunday Gospel Mark 6:7-13 verses come alive in the lives of our Temporary Professed Sisters.

In the Markan text Jesus summoned his disciples to follow Him. Today Sister Pamela Catherine Peasel responded to Jesus’ call by renewing her vows of chastity, poverty and obedience at the early morning Motherhouse Community Eucharist. Under the guidance of Sister Mariadele Jacobs, Sister Carolee Vanness and Sister Jean Anne Moser, Sister Pamela Catherine and recently professed, Sister Monica Martin, completed a special summer program of study, indepth sharing  and service. Last week’s Quasi Chapter along with other Community-building experiences were unique memories of summer 2012.

Realizing there is much to contemplate and learn in the Franciscan life, practical instructions continue in a discussion format in our Temporary Professed Sisters’ assigned community settings for the year.  In January 2013 Sisters Pamela Catherine and Monica will travel to the Motherhouse for a planned Formation weekend of study,  recollection, and ever joyfully-anticipated interaction with our Community’s Novices and Postulants.

Fittingly, Sunday’s Gospel not only spoke of Jesus summoning his disciples, but also sending them forth. At the end of this week, Sister Monica will be sent forth to her first teaching mission assignment at St. Theresa Parish, Kekaha, HI. Keep up with her adventures on her Habitually Speaking blog. Early August, Sister Pamela Catherine departs for  St. Peter Mission, Bapchule, AZ beginning her second year as a junior high teacher on the Gila River Reservation. Click here to enjoy a photo blog of desert-related images.

Are you wondering just what is happening with Temporary Professed Sister Elena Gonzales? Sister Elena  is preparing for final profession on August 2, 2012. Please join us in praying for her and those responsible for directing her own unique program that allows her time to grow closer to the Lord in contemplation and meditation of the vows.  Sister Mariadele, Sister Theresa Feldkamp and Sister Andrene Flasch are happy companions on this journey. Franciscanized World will cover this event with great joy! Watch for more coverage! (Photos: Sister Mariadele)
