Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity did not make the 3 day parish mission event at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist opening another season of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee ARISE. We were there on Saturday’s closing night along with a faith-filled congregation ready to sing The New Song (this year’s theme).
Father John Burns was homilist, following previous nights’ inspired speakers Talia Fehrenbach and Pete Burds who through stories and Church teaching called for an awareness of God’s love and an invitation to nurture a daily and personal relationship with Christ. Saturday night’s talk focused on the ‘lost sheep’ with a consistent call to consider the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Light penetrated the cathedral darkness in the many candles and a spotlight that beamed on the Eucharistic monstrance. Incense gave an added scent of reverence and mystery.
In response to Pope John Paul II’s call for a New Evangelization, Arise Ministries has established a new mission. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, Arise Ministries seeks to help Catholics respond to Christ by renewing parish life, rousing apostolic ardor, inspiring intimate prayer, and increasing sacramental devotion.
