Franciscan Sisters Part of 150 Year Anniversary of Yuma AZ Catholic Parish

Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity Sister Elizabeth Benvie shares on a recent celebration at Immaculate Conception Parish, Yuma, AZ celebrating its 150th Anniversary in 2016.

Immaculate Conception Parish will celebrate its sesquicentennial anniversary in 2016.  The pastor, Father Javier Perez, decided to extend this celebration for four years beginning in 2013 with Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission. (This is the ultimate supreme celebration!)

Immaculate Conception Parish FamiliesThis year will be dedicated to Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity in celebration of our 84 years of service to the parish and school.  The ‘Year of the Franciscan Sisters’ began with the 11:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, January 12th, the feast of the Baptism of the Lord.  A reception followed in the school cafeteria.

Franciscan Sisters at Immaculate Conception Parish Celebration Yuma AZNumerous Franciscan Sisters have ministered in Yuma since we first arrived in September 4, 1930.  The first four Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity who came to teach in Yuma were Sister Justin, Sister Prisca, Sister DeLellis, and Sister Edgar.

Since these early beginning days, Sisters have taught at Immaculate Conception School  from 1930 to the present,  St. Francis School from  1961-2003, and Yuma Catholic High School since 2000 to the present day.
