St. Francis had a special love for churches. Awe and reverence for sacred places continues to be heart-felt in Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity. This certainly was true at a recent open house of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community, Newton, WI. Many Sisters took the opportunity to pray at the new building for the needs of the people who call this Catholic Community home. Of course, petitions of generous openness to the Holy Spirit for vocations of service within the Church were voiced.
Fittingly, Sister Marlita Henseler, parish director, welcomed everyone and gave a brief history of how this building project came to be. Important to the conversation were stories telling the history of the building project and responses to questions about significant items found in the church. This rural Manitowoc County parish was founded in 2000, following the merger of St. Isidore, St. Casimir, St. Wendel and St. Joseph parishes. In addition to the open house at the church, Sisters also dropped in at the parish house, convent for the Sisters. Sister Patricia Touhey was the hostess there.
