Life is filled with good lingering summer memories! Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Sister Mary Ann Spanjers comments on the unforgettable experience of meeting many young adults at the July 2014 Diocese of Galveston Houston Café Catholica. She also highlights interviews for the Diocesan Radio Ministry in English and Spanish with Madeline Johnson and Sergio Castillo .
Café Catholica with Cardinal DiNardo
Praying with the 900 young adults during the Eucharist at Café Catholica was in itself inspiring; listening , with them, to Cardinal DiNardo’s presentation on Pope Francis’ Encyclical, “The Joy of the Gospel” deepened this experience of being called to be “sent”!
“The more one senses one’s call, the more personal one will become, because you will see yourself in relation to Jesus.” The Cardinal went on to stress the message of Pope Francis that the Poor are central to the Gospel, citing Luke 14, the rich man’s sin was being unaware of Lazarus. We are called to be attentive to the people in our lives, especially those who are overlooked. Who do we notice?
We are called to evangelize by encouraging each other!Radio Interviews
The radio Interview was also an enlivening experience! Sharing about our Franciscan call to be attentive to the needs of our Church and our world today is at the core of Franciscan life.
Young women whom Jesus is calling to join us bring the gifts God has given to them for the good of the Church! As Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity we trust the Holy Spirit to guide us in developing these gifts and discovering how we, as Sisters, are able to touch God’s people in unique ways by being ourselves, members of a Franciscan Community, where we are never alone!
