Along with the International Coastal Clean-up efforts, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity partner with the Alliance of the Great Lakes and Friends of the Manitowoc River Watershed to take care of Sister Water. This year September 20, 2014 marked the date for our comprehensive-collaborative beach clean-up.
We had a new development to report on our 9 year history of monitoring the Memorial Drive across from the United Way sign Lake Michigan shoreline. There was no beach.
After checking in with other organizations and their volunteers, we were easily united with another group near the University of Manitowoc and Silver Creek Park. We quickly notified our own promised volunteers from Roncalli Catholic High School, Silver Lake College and St. Francis of Assisi Parish to meet us at our new location. All enjoyed a new perspective of our favorite Great Lake.
This year all volunteers were invite to a buffet picnic at Schutte Park. A smoothie-making bicycle was a delicious healthy dessert.
