Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity celebrated a new elevator with a blessing prayer on February 27, 2015. Not only will it carry our Sisters up and down the 4 floors of our Motherhouse, but it will carry personal item and other needed equipment with greater ease. Like St. Francis who praised God for everything great and small, it was time for a Community blessing and prayer of gratitude!
Here’s the simple prayer:
O Lord God, you are never are far off from those who serve You. With fatherly protection, you always help those who trust in You.
As we have gathered here this afternoon to bless this elevator may we be grateful to the one who invented it.
By Your grace be our companion to those who will use it; so that as we age, our legs would lift us up with ease; and free us from the burden of walking stairs.
May we also be grateful to those who have installed this elevator; and especially those who paid for it.
Lord bless this new elevator-and bless those who will use it in the days and years to come. (Sprinkle with holy water.)
As they leave the elevator, may they pause and praise You for granting individuals the inspiration to invent such a means of travel-for our ease and convenience-between the floors of buildings.
