Our Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity community is built on a rich heritage of the fine arts. We keep alive precious songs composed by our own Sisters representing various musical styles and time periods and encourage inspiration among us today. This summer a volunteer choir practiced and performed some of  these musical compositions for a Community gathering.

Franciscan Sisters Choir2Sister Elizabeth Benvie directed the volunteer choir. Pianist Sister Francis Mason accompanied the group.

Franciscan Sisters Choir Director Sister Elizabeth BenvieProgram notes included mention of Archbishop Fultin Sheen who responded to a letter sent to him by Sister Mary Paul Vollmer. She had composed the song “Lovely Lady Dressed In Blue’ after listening to his radio show. Sister Marella Wagner composed ‘To Live Through Love in His Presence’ when priest friend and colleague Bob Morneau became a bishop for the Diocese of Green Bay, WI.

Another comparatively modern piece was composed by Sister Ann Carla Baumann on a bike ride while contemplating the deeper meaning of consecration her summer of preparation for perpetual profession. Sister Carol Juckem was also able to comment on her own ‘My Gift is Peace’, an ever-timely prayer.
