Recently, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity applauded Franciscan Friar of the Assumption Province Father Leslie Hoppe presention on Psalm 51 (The Miserere) at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Milwaukee, WI. It was part of a Scripture with the Scholars presentation sponsored by the Archdiocesan Evangelization Office and the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.father-leslie-hoppe-ofm

Psalm 51 is a plea for mercy and God’s response. A most familiar of the prayers for mercy found in the Book of Psalms, it is prayed every Friday in the Liturgy of the Hours. 785px-rembrandt_harmensz_van_rijn_-_return_of_the_prodigal_son_-_google_art_projectIn addition to examining this psalm in its Old Testament context, Father Leslie compared its structural outline to that of the New Testment St. Luke Prodigal Father story. Explaining three words for mercy and three words for sin in Hebrew were significant to the presentation.
