Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity invite you to celebrate the Feast of Christ the King with music from the News At Eleven band. “Let us give thanks to the Father, who has made us fit to share in the inheritance of the holy ones in light.” (Col 1:12)

News At Eleven is back with 13 original Contemporary Christian songs featuring tight vocal harmonies and styles ranging from gospel to funk to acoustic pop to rock. Entirely written by Catholic young adults, this album includes themes of discernment, evangelism, praise, and adoration. The music also carries us into the whole Advent Season.franciscan-sisters-feature-news-at-eleven-for-christ-the-king-feast

About the Songs

He Is the King of Glory

There are many hymns of praise, but not all of them seem joyful to this generation. With hearts wide open, News At Eleven sings this song of honor and praise to the King of Glory. While it wasn’t intended for liturgical settings, it sure is a fun song for praising God at the top of your lungs in the privacy of your car!

In The Day Of The Lord

As News At Eleven members finished school, lived through 9/11 and started christ-the-king-holy-innocentsfamilies, they were inspired to write “In The Day Of The Lord” which draws from Isaiah 11 and 12. They felt that a lot of conflict could be resolved if “others” could become “our brothers”. Children don’t see the divisions that adults do, so the new parents found it easy to understand how a child could lead them all.

Anyone who has calmed an infant with the “baby bounce” will understand the rock lullaby rhythm chosen for this song! Incidentally, this is one of a few tracks featuring German cellist Isabel Martin, who made a special trip back to the US to record the album.

Sign Of The Times

When we read the Bible, it sounds like the stories all happened so long ago. It’s easy to think of Jesus and his miracles as things of the past. How do we know he’s still with us today? Do modern day miracles look like those of biblical times, or should we look for something different?

People talk about ”signs of the times” as negative things, and young people are often blamed. But good things are happening all around us – we just need to look in the right places. Signs of Jesus’ love are everywhere as people demonstrate his love by working to build the Kingdom of God.

About News At Eleven Band

News At Eleven was founded in Los Angeles, CA by a group of students and alpha-omega-marionalumni who served as the contemporary choir for the University of Southern California Catholic Center’s 11 AM Mass.  Each week, the group led the community with upbeat original songs and unique arrangements of contemporary Catholic standards.

When the group decided to record its first album in early 1999, the members weren’t sure what to call themselves, but one thing was clear: “The University of Southern California Catholic Center 11 AM Contemporary Choir” wasn’t going to cut it.  The name didn’t have much of a ring to it, and in any event, it would never fit on a CD label.  Instead, the group sought a name that was a subtle reference to both their music and their roots at the USC Catholic Center. In the end, the members chose News At Eleven because of their message—the “Good News” of Jesus Christ—and their ministry at the 11 o’clock Mass.

News at Eleven has been heard on EWTN’s Catholic Jukebox, Sacred Heart Radio, Live 365, Relevant Radio’s Spirit Juice, and last.fm.

News at Eleven music is available on iTunes and CDBaby.com.
