On the weekend of July 21-23, 2017, Franciscan Sisters witnessed at the Steubenville on the Lake Youth Conference in Kenosha, WI.  The event was held at Carthage College. The theme was Elevate:  Behold I make all things new. (Revelation 21:5)

Sister Theresa Feldkamp and Sister Elaine Turba arrived with an assortment of materials our Sisters prepared to share with the 1,500 participants expected to be in attendance. Hand-crafted items included paper-beaded rosaries or a wood-burned PAX on pieces of wood done by Sister Elaine’s father. After preparing the table, not only did they meet young people from near by Manitowoc, but a significant group of youth from the Diocese of Marquette, Michigan among others from bordering states. Marquette Diocese Bishop John Doefler, Vocation Director and Pastor of Houghton’s St. Albert the Great, Father Ben Hasse and Father Corey Litzner, pastor of Baraga County Catholic Community, were among the leaders of faith communities represented in the crowd who stopped to visit. It was a good time to allow the Holy Spirit to build relationships otherwise not possible at another time or place.

Near the market place area was a chin up activity. This live action drew young people and encouraged them to support healthy volunteers. It was within viewing from our Sisters’ table. They, too, were quick to watch the action and cheer on willing contestants.
