On the Franciscan Calendar this August Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity highlight Franciscan friar and evangelist Saint Junípero Serra y Ferrer, O.F.M..
Indeed, he was a thoroughly driven to the Gospel Roman Catholic Spanish priest and friar of the Franciscan Order. He is best known for founding many missions in California. Many have made pilgrimages to each church up and down the coast marveling at the faith that inspires such monuments of faith. Serra was beatified in Rome by Pope John Paul II on September 25, 1988. Pope Francis canonized him on September 23, 2015, at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C.. This video by Bishop Robert Barron articulates more about the time in which the humble friar lived. His great love for Christ encouraged more people to know God.
St. Junipero Serra, pray for us!
