Franciscan Sisters Anniversary Open House

Sister JulieAnn Sheahan

November 03, 2019

Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity are proud of our Community history. We wanted to celebrate our 150th founding anniversary by making our past come alive. On Sunday, October 27, 2019, we offered conversations with our foundresses, who with faith in a loving God, grew a fledging Community. Here’s how the planning committee (Sister Anne Turba, Sister Caritas Strodthoff, Sister Elaine Turba, Sister Julie Ann Sheahan) accomplished this timely dialogue.

Sister actresses provided a connection to former days. Mother Gabriel (Sister Greta Peter), Mother Odelia (Sister Nancy Kinate), Sister Seraphica (Sister Caritas Marie Le Claire), Mother Pancratia (Sister Clare Rose Oswald), Mother Augustine (Sister Marcolette Madden), Mother Alexia (Sister Myra Jean Sweigart) and Mother Generose (Sister Catherine Gilles) were eager to share their stories.

While there was interaction with these Sister characters outdoors in the setting of our oldest cemetery, forty Sister hostesses shared information in various rooms in our Motherhouse or acted as guides on the tour inside and outdoors.

Sister Adrianna Schouten, Sister Annette Kurey and Sister Carmen Marie Diaz baked their favorite recipes of cookies to share.

These treats were served in the our convent cafeteria encouraging everyone to linger awhile with each other.

We’ll continue to share more images of this unforgettable afternoon in the days ahead.
