As we journey through Holy Week, Franciscan Sister Anne Marie Lom shares an experience with Door County Candle Company of Sturgeon Bay.

You may have seen on the local or national news that the Door County Candle Company of Sturgeon Bay is owned and operated by some local women. They have begun a project of selling large blue and yellow candles (colors of the Ukraine flag) and giving 100% of the profits to Ukraine. On Sunday, March 13, while on my home visit, I had the opportunity to visit their store. The large candles for the Ukraine had a heavy vanilla scent which some people, (including me) cannot tolerate.

I mentioned this and they had me hand dip a taper, at no charge, to take back home with me. It was not scented. When I returned to St. Francis Convent, one of the Sisters agreed to burn it during Adoration on Wednesday, March 23, just two days before the consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Since the project began, Door County Candle Company has given $275,000 (as of March 25).
