On this feast of Saint Clare, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity feature a homily entitled Saint Clare Christmas Communion by Father Paul Scalia. St. Clare and Christmas are timely topics not only for the Feast of the Incarnation, but every day including St. Clare’s official day on the Roman calendar. You will understand why after listening to this podcast.

Father Scalia grew up in the Diocese of Arlington and attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts.  He then studied theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University and the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome.  Since his ordination in 1996 he has served as parochial vicar at several parishes and as pastor of Saint John the Beloved in McLean.  He currently serves as the Episcopal Vicar for Clergy and directs the permanent diaconate program.  He has written for various publications and is a frequent speaker on matters of faith and doctrine.  Father Scalia is the author of That Nothing May Be Lost: Reflections on Catholic Doctrine and Devotion (Ignatius Press, 2017) and Sermons in Times of Crisis: Twelve Homilies to Stir Your Soul (Saint Benedict Press, 2019).

We also share a stained glass window of St. Clare from St. Francis of Assisi Chapel, Cardinal Stritch University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Pictured with this first feminine follower of St. Francis of Assisi is Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity Sister Pamela Biehl. She serves as the Project Coordinator of The Collaborative Parish Leadership Project at Cardinal Stritch University. CPLP is funded by a grant from the Lilly Endowment’s Thriving in Ministry Initiative. Lilly recognizes that the demands placed on Pastoral Leaders today are increasing and that the conditions in which they carry out their ministries are changing.
St. Clare of Assisi, pray for us. Is God calling you to be a Franciscan Sister? We invite you.

Thank you Sr. Julie Ann, for sharing this homily from Fr. Scalia on “St. Clare Christmas Communion.” What a great preparation for the Feast of St. Clare. Yes, what a blessed gift of the Mass & the opportunity for Adoration.

We do come to JESUS in His presence in Adoration & in the great gift of the EUCHARIST which is our NOURISHMENT of life & food for the daily journey. I liked Fr. Scalia’s quote: “Our soul depends on the EUCHARIST so our souls don’t wither.”

Sr. Pamela, thank you for serving on the CPLP Project. The stained glass windows are beautiful.
