For you who are discerning your call from God, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity promis to offer a monthly feature entitled: Discernment Questions.  Individual Sisters will respond to the question and offer their reflections. The first question is: What gives you joy? Sister Helena Young, Sister Ellen Pachmayer and Sister Hannah Johnecheck offer their reflections and encourage your pondering.

What gives me joy?

The first thing that came to my mind of “what gives me joy” is a warm conversation with a good friend with some depth of sharing.

The second thing that gives me joy is in prayer,, when I’m really quiet and can experience a sense of the Spirit within. – Sister Ellen

It has been a rewarding experience to have ministered as a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity for over 50 years. I have served in various positions in health care being a nurse, educator, and administrator. Serving others and meeting their needs always gives me a sense of great joy and well-being. The Community has provided me with opportunities for education and spiritual enrichment which gives me confidence in what I’m asked to do. A Pilgrimage to Assisi stands out as the greatest joy and privilege I have had as a member of our Congregation.  – Sister Helena

The things that bring me joy are really the small and simple things; a good laugh or discussion with others, time spent with God before the Blessed Sacrament and in the outdoors. I experience God very deeply in these events. – Sister Hannah

What gives you joy? Talk to God as you would to a friend. Consider writing your thoughts. Share with someone who you trust and desires your good.
