Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity lead the music for an August 5, 2023, St. Ann celebration at St. Ann Parish, St. Anna, Wisconsin. This special place fittingly named after Jesus’ grandmother, is the hometown of Sister Anne Turba and Sister Elaine Turba. St. Anna, part of an area in Wisconsin called “The Holyland, is linked with other local communities with saintly or Christian-related names e.g. Marytown, Mount Calvary, Jericho, St. Cloud. For those who have never visited, St. Ann Church is located at the highest hill in town. The founders and foundresses clearly desired to witness to the presence of Christ to all miles away.
Mass and dinner were held at St. Anna Park. This festive Eucharistic occasion was truly a family-reunion. Appropriate to liturgy’s readings for the Feast of the Transfiguration, this event was celebrated under tents. “Lord, it is good to be here.” Fr. Alvan Amadi, Pastor of three parishes, St. Ann, Holy Rosary, New Holstein and Sts. Peter and Paul, Kiel, encouraged all present to be like the three apostles on the Mountain of Transfiguration. Like St. Peter, we are to love Jesus the most. Like St. John, we are to allow Jesus to love us the most. And like St. James, we are to be generous to the point of giving our very lives to the Lord.

I have been to that area (from MPLS.), and to those churches, and to S. Elaine’s farm. Those are very lovely churches, with wonderful people and great hospitality!
