Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Novices Sister Catherine Peter Logan and Sister Michelle Marie Ozuna and Postulant Jennifer Bourque reflect on the Neosho, Wisconsin Catholic Ecology Center’s recent St. Francis of Assisi Celebration.

“What a joy-filled sunny day we had at the Catholic Ecology Center in Neosho as we celebrated the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi a few days early. The sounds of laughter filled the air as children and families explored the different hands-on activities on the beautiful grounds at the center.

We started off the day as we took a moment to say a prayer and light a candle to add to the beautiful altar in honor of St. Francis on this day of celebration.

After some exploring, Fr. Malucha from Holy Family Catholic church led a wonderful Blessing of the animals for all the adorable pets present. Then we joined in with the families to play some different games and activities, such as minnow racing, ring toss, tomahawk throwing, pumpkin painting, and bubble making. Of course, we cannot forget the petting zoo or the fun face painting.

It was inspiring to see all of the families engaging in the outdoor activities. It was wonderful to chat with the kiddos, parents, staff, and volunteers. The atmosphere of the Ecology center is one of a spirit of peace and a true family feel as you learn and interact with one another. We look forward to the possible future events coming up during the year and are excited to see the completion of the chapel and additional spaces next May. Thank you, Catholic Ecology Center, for all you do to foster stewardship through the Catholic faith and bring the outdoors fully alive in all of your programming. Pax et Bonum!” – Sister Catherine Peter

“It was such a joyous occasion to celebrate St. Francis Day at the Catholic Ecology Center. Though there were many activities to foster fun and family including, tomahawk throwing, minnow racing, pumpkin painting, and pin the tail of the wolf of Gubio, I was won over by the blessing of the animals and the petting zoo. It was such a special time to just live in the spirit of St. Francis spending time glorifying creation but truly living the gospel through the gift and treasure of community. I truly commend the staff and volunteers at the Catholic Ecology Center for making it such a rewarding and blessed day for all those in attendance.” -Sister Michelle Marie

The day was full of fur, fun, family, fellowship, friendship, faithfulness, and Francis, a true heaven-on-earth experience. Thank you, CEC, we can’t wait to visit again!- Jenn

What a blessed opportunity to interact with others AND the animals. St. Francis would be happy!
