Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity Sister Mariadele Jacobs was present at the Tenth National Eucharistic Congress in the Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, Indiana. There was a lot of excitement as she and members of her family were among the crowd of 50,000 people awaiting the speakers for the first evening.
In the event program, Bishop Andrew H. Cozzens wrote: “Our world desperately needs saints! So many live without hope, without joy, without love. May this 10th National Eucharistic Congress be the seedbed of sanctity for thousands. May many people like you surrender their lives to the Holy Spirit to be offered for the glory of Christ in the Eucharist. May you become his Eucharistic missionaries to our broken world.”
As we, too, hear the call to be Eucharistic missionaries, we remember the words of other holy men and women:
“In the humble signs of bread and wine, changed into His body and blood, Christ walks beside us as our strength and our food for the journey.” -St. John Paul II
“The courage and strength that are in me and not of me, but of Him who lives in me-it is the Eucharist.” -St. Faustina Kowalska
“A thousand years of enjoying human glory is not worth even an hour spent sweetly communing with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.” -St. Pio of Pietrelcina
“Jesus has made Himself the bread of life to give us life. If you really want to grow in love, come back to the Eucharist, come back to Adoration.” – St. Teresa of Calcutta
