As we near the first month anniversary of Sister Concepcion Medina’s Perpetual Profession, we share a beautiful reflection written by Veronica Cedillo in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish bulletin, Midland, Texas for August 9, 2026. There are moments in our lives that leave a lasting imprint on our hearts. Witnessing the Perpetual Profession of Vows of our very own Sister Concepcion Medina, on August 2 was one of those moments.
As a parish community, we continue to pray for an increase in vocations, and this weekend we were blessed to witness the fruit of those prayers. Surrounded by her family, Father John Girotti, Father David, her friends, the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, and all those who have accompanied her on this journey, Sister Concepción stood before God and His Church and freely gave her life to Christ forever.
The beauty of this sacred celebration actually began the evening before during Solemn Vespers. Our pastor, and spiritual father, Father David, had the privilege of blessing the ring, and the cross that Sister Concepción received at her profession Mass. In his homily, he spoke on the words from the gospel of Luke that Sister Concepcion embraced during her ACTS retreat, “When you have done all you have been commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do. This was a powerful reminder that every vocation is first and foremost a humble response to God’s invitation, where we are meant to shine as Children of God. Then came Sunday.
Words cannot fully capture what it was like to witness Sister Concepción pronounce her perpetual vows. As she lay prostrate before the altar in complete surrender and later received the ring and cross as signs of her lifelong covenant with Christ, we witnessed something far greater than a ceremony. We witnessed a soul saying “yes” without reservation, a love story between Christ and His bride unfolding before our eyes.
For many of us, this day was especially meaningful because we have had the privilege of watching God lead Sister Concepción throughout her journey. We have seen His faithfulness, His healing, His gentle guidance, and now His promises fulfilled. To witness her “yes” was a reminder that God continues to call, and that when we trust Him completely, He is always faithful. As I reflected throughout the weekend, I couldn’t help but think of all those who are still waiting to discover God’s plan for their lives. Sister Concepción herself once waited, wondered, and simply kept saying “yes” to each step the Lord placed before her. Her witness reminds us that God’s timing is always perfect, and His plans are always more beautiful than we could imagine. May her joyful witness continue to inspire our parish family to pray for vocations, encourage those discerning God’s call, and remind each of us that holiness begins with a simple, trusting “yes.”

We are grateful to have witnessed their beautiful milestones and we all continue praying for them as they live their vocation with joy, humility, and faithfulness. We continue to pray for Alvin Navarrete and Phillip Ward who will be ordained to the permanent deaconate on December 5, 2026, in Odessa at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and for our Seminarian Noah Hernandez as he continues with his yes and for all those who are praying about our Lord’s call.
